According to a study, most of the academic misconduct activities are done by medical students. And the primary type of academic misconduct activity is cheating. However, even after realizing the consequences of using unfair means to gain an academic advantage, students continue to take that risk. Medical graduates need the utmost professionalism as they play a major role in saving people’s lives. A small, unethical behavior in this profession can cause severe harm to the patient as well as the doctor. Moreover, there are many reasons which lead to a student attempting unfair academic practices. In such cases, a lawyer for medical students can be helpful. But unfortunately, irrespective of the reason here are some of the significant consequences of academic misconduct:
1. Termination of degree mid-term: If any student is caught cheating during any examination or assessment in their University, it is obvious that the authorities can terminate their degree midterm. Hence, they will end up losing essential years of their career.
2. Prohibited from appearing in the examinations in the near future: Another major drawback of using unfair academic activities for gain is getting barred from appearing for the medical examinations for a few years or permanently.
3. Legal action: As medicine is an extremely professional field and carries a huge responsibility, there are chances that you may face legal action when in the habit of using unethical means. Cheating can become a habit and, therefore, your university might decide that it is not reasonable to allow you to escape without facing the penalty or punishment.
4. Danger to patients: You might score well and pass your medical examinations by using unethical academic ways. However, this carries a significant drawback. A Doctor who is not an expert in the field can be a danger to the patients. Also, you might end up losing your medical license permanently in case of any negligence during work.
Disciplinary action attached to academic misconduct depends on different rules set by universities. However, it is crucial that universities take up the responsibility of conducting regular ethics programs to acknowledge their students of the consequences of academic misconduct. The habit of attempting unethical behavior can result in serious trouble in the future. Students must identify their weaknesses and work on them instead of attempting activities that can be troublesome in the long term. A doctor who is not confident in his skills can jeopardize the health of their patients and even risk their life.
