This year, on July 17, lakhs of medical aspirants will take the NEET exam in order to pursue medical courses in their dream institutes. This exam is not only mandatory for Indian students but also for students who have done their education abroad and wish to seek entrance into pan-Indian medical institutes. The main criterion is that the candidates must have passed Biology/Biotechnology, Physics, and Chemistry in their Class 12 or equivalent studies. Also, the candidates must be 17 years of age at the time of medical admission. As per the recent amendments, the upper age limit has been removed. Thus, one can give this exam as many attempts as possible.

NEET Exam Procedure

This highly competitive national-level exam is conducted by an efficient body called NTA (National Testing Agency). All those aspiring candidates can visit the official website of NTA and apply for this exam. This exam is a gateway for various dental, medical, and AYUSH courses across the country. The eligible candidates can apply for NEET and kick-start their preparations for the same. The NEET 2022 has the same pattern and syllabus as the previous years. Thus, one can begin their preparations by downloading and analyzing the previous years’ NEET question papers with answer keys. The following table provides the exam pattern.

The syllabus topics are well-curated by considering NCERT, CBSE, COBSE, and various state boards. Thus, the exam ensures uniformity, transparency, as well as standard assessment.

Why is the NEET Cut-off Important?

Cut-offs are minimum marks that have to be obtained to clear a test. This will decide the admission status of the candidates. Usually, the cut-off marks vary with each category of candidates. The NTA declares these qualifying cut-off scores and also prepares a list of all candidates who have cleared it. Those who cleared the cut-off should register themselves for the further counseling process.

Moreover, this cut-off varies every year based on the difficulty level of the question paper and the number of students who appear for the exam. Preferably, candidates scoring above 600 (out of 720) have a good chance of seeking admission into top-tier medical institutes.

Merit list

A separate merit list of qualifying candidates is also released by the officials. This list is solely based on All India Ranks. All the candidates who have cleared the cut-off are ranked based on their NEET scores. The counseling and seat allotment are also based on this list.

NIRF Rankings

The ambition of every NEET aspirant is to seek admission into a well-recognized medical institute that provides ample opportunities for growth. Thus, it is important for every medical aspirant to know the top medical colleges in India before even applying for the exam. This will help to fix a focused target to reach the particular institute. Also, the cut-off scores vary according to the standard of the college. To know more about top Indian medical institutes, it is a must to visit the NIRF website. The NIRF is a ranking framework established by the Indian government. It takes into various parameters like teaching resources and graduation outcomes to rank the colleges in India.

Admissions into prestigious institutes like CMC and AIIMS are also based on the NEET scores. Thus, before applying for NEET, one must have two important goals set aside.

  1. To know the approximate target score for your respective category and start preparing accordingly. This will make the way towards the merit list easier.
  2. To know the topmost medical institutes and have a focused cut-off accordingly. Knowing the final path of the journey is as important as starting the journey.
